ABOUT THE OWNERS

We are very proud of Shady Oaks Campground and thought you might enjoy a bit of its' history. In 1969 two couples formed a partnership and purchased a piece of land that developed into a 25 site campground designed for tents and pop-ups under the name of Kozy Kamers Campground.

The campground changed ownership 3 times. We appeared on the scene in 1989 and Shady Oaks was born. We both needed a career change and found this the potentially perfect setting for that change. It was a big challenge since neither of us had ever experienced the camping adventure. Soon it was evident that major changes had to be made to keep up with the fast-growing RV industry. A few items on the list were a home for the owners, a swimming pool, an updated power system, sewer hookups, and renovations to the bathhouse, laundry and recreation hall. Most days Don had a chainsaw in one hand and a shovel in the other. Joyce was close behind with a mop and broom.

We learned early on that we needed to create a family atmosphere. We encouraged seasonal campers to make Shady Oaks their summer home. Young and old alike brought life the summer festivities and friendships grew. After 22 years we have grown to 70 sites and 5 cabins. At least half our campers are full time summer residents, providing that family atmosphere we sought.

With the addition of a new recreation hall we have a place to enjoy nightly card game and many meals, including our weekly Sunday morning pancake breakfasts. In the early spring and into late September the warmth of the pot belly stove has provided comfort to many campers. Outside, a long porch filled with rockers is the gathering place for leisurely conversations an coffee throughout the season.

Because of all our wonderful experiences with campers at Shady Oaks, we have become RV travelers ourselves and   now spend our winters at the Voyager RV Resort in Tuscon, Arizona, where we are very active in the activities and camaraderie of the park. While this provides a wonderful "change of pace" for us, it also allows us to experience camping from the campers point of view. Our goal is to make your stay at Shady Oaks a memorable one. We feel privileged to show you our own brand of Maine hospitality. When we see you on the road in your RV we know you are not a stranger, but a friend we have not yet met. Stop by Soon!
